In light of the NFL continuing to allow its players to disrespect the national anthem, President Donald Trump is now calling for the United States to end special tax breaks for the organization.
“Why is the NFL getting massive tax breaks while at the same time disrespecting our Anthem, Flag and Country?” Trump asked via Twitter. “Change tax law!”

And the man makes a really good point here. Even though the NFL gave up its non-profit status in 2015, the organization’s stadiums have received an estimated $6.7 billion from taxpayers over the last two decades. In other words, team owners tend to reap big — no, YUGE — tax breaks from local, state, and federal officials, which enable them to upkeep current or build expensive new stadiums and keep teams in their community.
However, a bill sponsored by Congressman Matt Gaetz could end these tax breaks for the NLF once and for all. Gaetz discussed that bill during a General Speech session before Congress, saying it should not be subsidizing the NFL with tax breaks “particularly when the NFL league office has embraced this unpatriotic behavior.”
