The Washington Times is reporting that President Obama spent a record $36.2 MILLION dollars of taxpayer money in legal fees, all in their effort to hide things from the press and American citizens.
Under the Freedom of Information Act, President Obama should have turned over certain federal records when asked but instead they spent years and millions of dollars continuing to deny knowing the whereabouts of whatever was in question. They even made organizations pay for records even if they asked for those fees to be waved.
Obama himself has even been heard saying ‘The only people who don’t want to disclose the truth are people with something to hide’.
The number of lawsuits over the last four years was astronomical and most of them the government lost. The AP just recently received $150,546 as part of a settlement in their case on Hillary Clinton and the State Department for files from 2015. The AP still has pending cases with the FBI and their overreach into criminal investigations.
According to the report of the $36.2 million “the Justice Department accounted for $12 million, the Homeland Security Department for $6.3 million and the Pentagon for $4.8 million.”
Despite the previous President’s call to be “the most transparent administration in history” they clearly were in no hurry to respond to the 788,769 requests for files and were not concerned with the $478 million dollars they paid staff to “answer” them. In over 77 percent of the requests under President Obama’s administration people received censored files or nothing at all.
As American citizens under the Freedom of Information Act we should have access to any file that would not compromise national security, violate privacy or confidentiality in a major way.
It just makes you wonder what President Obama was hiding if he was willing to pay over $36 MILLION dollars of taxpayer money to protect it.
