This speech from US Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), one of the larger and more constitutional voices in the US House of Representatives, has certainly made its fair share of rounds on social media lately. This was back when Obama was still in office, but it’s worth revisiting, without question!
“The House of Representatives does not exist to pass ‘suggestions,’” Gowdy said. “We do not exist to pass ‘ideas.’ We make law. And while you are free to stand and clap, when any president comes into this hallowed chamber and promises to do it ‘with or without you,’ I will never stand and clap when any president – no matter if he is from your party or mine – promises to make us a constitutional anomaly and afterthought. We make law!”
You see, the problem is that, although we are removed from the days of President Obama acting like a king with executive overreach, many people believe that, once elected, the President of the United States has the ability to do whatever he/she chooses whenever they feel like it. But this is absolutely not the case, and Gowdy sets the record straight in this video.
In this speech, he proves why we as a nation must eliminate that belief, and why we must be constitutionally literate and bound by the rule of law..always! We the People cease to be represented in government when we move away from it.
