Whoa! Step aside, Kathy Griffin. Make way for CNN sister network, TNT?
In rather disturbing news, it looks as if TNT and its new drama, WILL, are sponsoring the final two performances this weekend of Julius Caesar (a.k.a. a Trump assassination play) as part of Shakespeare in the Park by the Public Theater in New York City’s Central Park.
See the video below. The cable network is using the – disturbing, graphic – sponsorship to promote the new drama series, which is set to premiere on July 10.
According to Playbill:
“The new TNT series Will, which dramatizes the origin story of a young William Shakespeare, is sponsoring the final June 17–18 performances of the Public Theater’s free Shakespeare in the Park production of Julius Caesar at the Delacorte Theater.
In the areas surrounding the outdoor venue, TNT will bring to life the world of the Elizabethan Marketplace with music, performers, and giveaways, including Will-branded totes, temporary tattoos, and koozies with the purchase of select beverages.
The announcement follows the recent loss of sponsorships and controversy surrounding the Oskar Eustis-helmed production, which depicts Caesar as a Trump-like politician.”
Broadway World also reported on TNT’s sponsorship.
Looks like another not-so-subtle subliminal message if you ask me. But, you can be it’ll be ignored and/or passed off as if it’s nothing.
