President Trump and First Lady Melania spent Wednesday in Las Vegas thanking first responders and visiting victims of one of the worst mass shootings in US history, which left 59 dead, and more than 500 injured.
While there, they met with Thomas Gunderson, one of the attack’s survivors, at a Las Vegas hospital. Melania was first to enter Thomas’ hospital room.
The moment she entered Thomas immediately rose from his bed to his feet, despite his wounded leg. While approaching him, she insisted that he not get up.
Gunderson, however, wouldn’t have it. He stood and shook her hand. Then, when President Trump entered the room, he immediately approached Thomas and said, “Hey, this guy looks tough to me.” Thomas replied, “thank you so much, I appreciate it.”

“I will never lie down when the President of this great country comes to shake my hand! There may be plenty of issues in this country but I will always respect my country, my president, and my flag. Shot in the leg or not, I will stand to show my President the respect he deserves!”
